In April 1925, we issued our first combination policy under the name of New York Cooperative Underwriters. At that time, twenty-two companies participated in the combination policies. In 1942, with a participation of five companies in the combination, our name was changed to New York Mutual Underwriters. Today, with two Member Companies (Security Mutual Insurance Company AND Sterling Insurance Company), we are stronger than ever and better able to meet the needs of our customers. New York Mutual Underwriters, an unincorporated association, writes both property and liability coverage for personal and commercial risks located in New York State. Business is secured through independent agents appointed by one or both of our two Member Companies. The licensing of all member-appointed agents is handled directly out of the New York Mutual office as is all underwriting, claims, and billing pertaining to business written by NYMU.
